QLogic ExpressModule 'doubles available ports'
19 Jun 2008
The number of input-output ports made available using a single server slot may be doubled by the use of the QLogic ExpressModule, the company claims.
Each module features two Fibre Channel ports and two Ethernet connections, which vice-president of marketing Amit Vashi notes compares with counterpart products with a pair of one or the other, but not both.
The module, sometimes referred to by its product code of QEM3472, has also been designed to provide enterprise-level management capabilities and increased protection of data.
Mr Vashi comments: "The QLogic QEM3472 ExpressModule maximises server slots, incorporating two Fibre Channel and two Ethernet ports on a single card, doubling the number of available input-output ports."
The modules may also be added to compatible systems without the need to power down, meaning no network outage should be necessary during the installation process.
QLogic notes that figures from the Dell'Oro group for the fourth quarter of 2007 rank it as market leader in terms of revenues for blade server mezzanine cards and port ships, as well as Fibre Channel host bus adapter earnings.
