QLogic SANbox 9000 'a sane alternative'
02 Jul 2008
For a "sane alternative" to high-cost director switches, QLogic suggests its SANbox 9000 series as a more affordable alternative.
The range features customer-replaceable units, meaning the need to call out a service technician may be reduced, while the modular chassis used aims to minimise the physical footprint of the system.
Among the components which may be replaced without interrupting the operation of the system as a whole are power supplies, fans and central processing units, with redundant parts ensuring uptime of 99.999 per cent according to the manufacturer.
QLogic contends that the units are ideal for use in small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) clients' data centre cores which require intelligent switching for "blazing" performance and ultra high-density storage.
Jesse Parker, vice-president and general manager of QLogic's network solutions group, says: "This highly versatile platform supports our long-term vision to give SME customers the essential enterprise-class storage networking features they need."
While the new 9008V Fibre Channel input-output blade offers connectivity at 8 Gbps, QLogic stresses that it remains backwards-compatible with earlier SANbox 9000 models.
