FSC streamlines blade server setup
02 Jul 2008
Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) is aiming to make the setup of blade servers a little easier with the launch of ServerView Virtual-I/O Manager (VIOM).
ServerView VIOM promises to consolidate the management of multiple network devices into a single point of access, helping to minimise the risk of administration domains overlapping.
This is achieved by virtualising physical addresses on the network, such as Media Access Control and World Wide Name identifiers, on systems operating using FSC Primergy blade servers.
Server blades Primergy BX620 S4 and BX630 S2 fully support ServerView VIOM, FSC asserts, while any operating system should also function properly once it is installed.
By implementing the system, FSC argues that the limitations on performance caused by input-output resources being "physically shackled" to network addresses may be removed.
The news follows reports from FSC that its Primergy RX600 S4 web server succeeded in setting world-beating performance figures during independent benchmark testing.
