Virtualisation 'more popular in US'
02 Jul 2008
European firms need to do more to adopt virtualisation if they are to keep pace with their US counterparts, according to new figures from ONStor.
In its latest survey of the market, the network-attached storage provider found that US companies are more rapidly adopting virtualisation across their data centres and networks.
Half of these report that simplified management of the system as a whole is a key factor in deciding to make the move towards a virtualised network infrastructure, compared with 60 per cent of European firms which cite the same reasoning.
But only 27 per cent of companies in Europe are actually implementing virtualisation, eight per cent fewer than the proportion of US businesses virtualising their storage networks.
Chief executive officer of ONStor Bob Miller comments: "Customers already adopting a virtualised storage strategy are fast realising the benefits of reduced operational costs and improved data availability."
The news follows previous figures from ONStor which detected that two-thirds of IT managers are currently considering putting virtualisation in place in the coming months.
