Managed firewalls 'driving security services market'
08 Jul 2008
About half of all revenue in the security services sector is now from managed firewalls, according to research from Infonetics.
The organisation reveals that expenditure on content security services is expected to triple in the four-year period from 2007 to 2011.
Smaller firms are predicted to represent an increasing share of the market, up from their current position as forming 22 per cent of all budgetary allocations.
Meanwhile, larger businesses are anticipated by the analyst to contribute a correspondingly diminished amount of revenues to the sector, down from the 44 per cent of expenditure which came from larger companies in 2007.
Jeff Wilson, principal network security analyst at Infonetics, notes that "productivity improvements and cost savings" continue to drive uptake of managed security services.
Fellow analyst Gartner recently published statistics indicating a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in expenditure on security software by firms in order to maintain regulatory compliance and decrease the risk of data leakage..
