Half of workers 'dissatisfied with IT updates'
09 Jul 2008
The rate at which businesses upgrade their IT infrastructures is likely to leave the majority of workers unhappy in the coming years, according to research from Gartner.
Figures from the analyst indicate that, currently, the proportion of disgruntled workers stands at around 30 per cent as many companies fail to implement upgrades at a pace that matches the development of technology as a whole.
But this is forecasted to rise to greater than 50 per cent of the workforce by 2013 - with Gartner suggesting that uniform adoption of new technologies has the potential to compound the issue.
Tom Austin, vice-president and Gartner fellow, explains that some businesses attempt to roll out new technology across the entire company in order to ensure that all workers are given access at the same time.
However, the analyst advises that "different users have different wants and needs" and that, therefore, a non-uniform introduction of services may be more advisable.
Gartner previously encouraged enterprises to follow the lead of brands such as Yahoo! and Google in implementing a cloud computing-based structure to serve email users more effectively..
