'Hours lost' in paper-strewn offices
14 Jul 2008
Businesses are wasting hours trawling through paper-based documents instead of implementing a paperless office solution, it has been revealed.
A YouGov study recently found that 80 per cent of company principals believe they lose as much as an hour per day of productivity while trying to locate the print copy of a document.
In all, 92 per cent conceded that they waste at least some of each working day looking through papers.
George Derbyshire, chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, says: "It's vital to prioritise on a daily basis, but it is also important to take time out from time to time and review your processes and systems."
By switching to a more efficient system - such as a digital document management application - companies could find they reduce the amount of potential productivity time they waste.
Figures included in the research suggest that this could boost the economy as a whole by an estimated £42.2 million, or £4,400 per typical company per week.
The news follows claims by Drew Robb in an article for Enterprise Storage Forum that implementing data backup alone does not represent an overall disaster recovery solution, as consideration must also be given to retrieving and restoring information from the archive..
