Comic Relief updates SAN
14 Jul 2008
Non-profit organisation Comic Relief found its data backup procedures to be no laughing matter recently, it has been revealed.
But the charity may have a smile back on its face after implementing a new storage area network (SAN) solution and virtualised server environment.
Head of IT John Thompson asserts that Comic Relief has deployed "an extremely cost-effective solution, ensuring that the maximum amount of profit is donated to our global initiatives".
This is in line with its operating procedures, which demand that any investments made are in accordance with the risk policy outlined by the board of trustees.
Mr Thompson adds that the new system should help to reduce the amount of downtime experienced by the organisation and protect against data loss should systems fail.
Previously, Comic Relief's off-site SAN took a number of hours to restore from a tape-based archive if a network interruption or application failure took place..
