Isilon Systems 'in demand for moviemakers'

15 Jul 2008

Animation studios are continuing to drive accelerated demand for video storage solutions, it has been revealed.

In an article for eWeek, Chris Preimesberger notes that animators and special effects providers - such as DreamWorks, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic - are continuing to place orders with vendors such as Isilon Systems and other operators in the storage sector.

He adds that video storage is also receiving custom from government bodies and businesses looking to enhance their surveillance infrastructure.

According to Mr Preimesberger, increasing competition in the animation and digital effects market is likely as new companies enter the sector, adding to the opportunities for storage vendors.

"Storage is where all the high-performance computing digital film files need to live until they are assembled into a movie," he explains.

Isilon Systems is also providing storage equipment to be used by broadcaster NBC in its coverage of the 2008 Beijing summer Olympic Games, the company recently revealed.
