Riverbed offers 'wind in your hair' Microsoft access
01 Aug 2008
Riverbed Technology customers could find their networks offer "wind in your hair" access to Microsoft applications, the company asserts.
The firm reveals that the "vast majority" of its clients use Steelhead network accelerators to speed access to Microsoft Office applications and documents as well as Microsoft Exchange email servers.
John Martin, vice-president of product management for Riverbed Technology, explains that the firm aims to accelerate the performance of Microsoft applications over the network to "wind in your hair" levels.
Version 5.0 of the company's RiverbedOptimisation System, or RiOS, has now been launched with protocol optimisation settings for Microsoft Exchange 2000, 2003 and 2007 at the application level.
Riverbed Technology has now entered into a protocol implementation agreement with Microsoft, allowing it access to the software giant's intellectual property in order to improve its own products' interoperability with Microsoft programs.
Previously, Riverbed Technology was praised by industry publication CRN for offering ease of use and innovation in its products capable of rivalling some of the sector's leading companies.
