QLogic supports 'well-tuned solutions' for HPC
06 Aug 2008
High-performance computing (HPC) environments require tuned and supported networking infrastructure, QLogic asserts.
The organisation recently announced a collaborative effort with some 40 vendors of HPC equipment in an attempt to identify the ways in which storage systems, cables, optics and applications may interoperate in InfiniBand environments.
QLogic aims to publish a HPC Interoperability Guide in order to advise both consultants and developers on how best to incorporate its products into high-performance systems.
Jie Wu, research manager for technical computing at industry analyst IDC, says: "Recognising the challenges faced by end-users, QLogic sees the pressing need for solutions that are complete, well supported and tuned."
Director of business alliances at QLogic Joe Kimpler adds that the collaboration is advancing InfiniBand to a stage comparable with that of mature standards such as Ethernet or Fibre Channel.
QLogic recently announced the results of independent research into the potential to run Fibre Channel over Ethernet using converged network adapters, hailing the technology as being in a suitable state for quick adoption by the general market.
