FSC unveils mid-range FibreCAT CX4 series

06/08/2008 15:25:49

Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) has unveiled the latest addition to its FibreCAT range of networking devices, with the new CX4 series aimed at mid-range users.

The fourth generation of the CX series of storage area networking devices is said by the manufacturer to interoperate with both Fibre Channel and iSCSI environments, allowing existing infrastructure to be consolidated.

Vice-president of FSC's storage business Helmut Beck says: "The new FibreCAT CX generation provides an optimal environment for all companies that require large drive numbers and high bandwidth combined with absolute reliability in their storage products."

Among the features of the systems is virtual provisioning, an extension of the firm's existing thin provisioning method of allocating disk space to tasks which it claims can help to reduce the risk of bottlenecks occurring as disks are able to work to their fullest capacity.

FSC previously announced that a further six countries are being invited to take part in its Dynamic Data Centre challenge, in which it promises to reduce data centre energy consumption by 40 per cent for each participating company or make a donation to charity.
