HDS 'is beating its rivals'
07 Aug 2008
The pace of growth being achieved by Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) is greater than that of its main competitors, it has been noted.
In its latest financial figures, the firm reports a year-on-year increase of 19 per cent in quarterly sales for the three months to June 2008 - which industry publication CRN notes is ahead of the 14 and 12 per cent recorded by EMC and IBM respectively in the storage sector.
CRN adds that the latest figures follow claims that HDS doubled its levels of business within the UK over the course of 2007, as well as increasing its number of staff to three times its previous workforce.
Steve Murphy, managing director of HDS for the UK and Ireland, tells the periodical: "HDS took four per cent market share from both EMC and IBM. It is hitting its revenue targets that it has set for the next two years and will continue to take market share."
HDS was founded in 1989 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi and states that it now employs some 3,200 people worldwide with operations in 170 countries and jurisdictional regions.
