Force10 representative advises on eco-networks uptake
08 Aug 2008
Efforts to create more ecologically friendly data networks could benefit from the advice recently given by Force10 representative John D'Ambrosia.
The senior research scientist asserts that industry standards should be established in order to cater for the shifted balance of requirements put in place by the move towards more environmentally friendly networking practices.
By doing so, he suggests that all practitioners within the sector could be working "on the same page" in order to resolve what her terms a "crucial issue".
Mr D'Ambrosia explains that the demands put in place by data centres are trending towards greater bandwidth requirements as a trade-off for reducing power through consolidation and virtualisation of infrastructure.
"Standards bodies have the opportunity now to provide the additional tools that will allow organisations to move to a more eco-efficient design without creating bandwidth or performance limitations," he comments.
Force10 Networks recently revealed that its switches and routers are now used in almost one in three of the world's fastest supercomputers, as determined by analyst Top500.org.
