'First FCoE CNAs' shipped by QLogic
08 Aug 2008
QLogic has announced the distribution of its first converged network adapters (CNAs) for use with Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) networks.
Vice-president of marketing Amit Vashi claims that the QLogic 8000 series of CNAs is "laying the groundwork" on which FCoE networks can build in the future.
The news is accompanied by the launch of QLogic's NETtrack initiative, which aims to provide clients with networking solutions supported throughout the FCoE "ecosystem" of different products from different vendors.
Richard Villars, vice-president of storage systems research at industry analyst IDC, says: "Today's data centre is a fast-growing and increasingly critical corporate asset, so any solutions that can help IT executives reduce complexity while boosting responsiveness are critical."
QLogic previously carried out a test of its FCoE CNAs which found that products from 14 different vendors were capable of working over the network without difficulty.
This, the company explained, was due to the adapters making the network appear to the devices as though it were an ordinary Fibre Channel infrastructure.
