Power usage 'optimised' by Virtual Iron
11 Aug 2008
Virtual Iron users may optimise their power consumption with the launch of version 4.4 of the virtualisation management software later this month, the developer has revealed.
LivePower is a system which assesses the minimum number of physical servers required to support the number of virtualised machines in use and consolidates the network into a more compact form.
As such, the surplus physical machines may be powered down, helping to reduce the energy consumption of the data centre as a whole, the developer - also named Virtual Iron - explains.
Tony Asaro, chief strategy officer of Virtual Iron, says: "We have thousands of customer deployments supporting a wide range of applications - from test and development to mission-critical environments."
He adds that LivePower offers users a further ability to complement the existing value which may be derived from the depth of services incorporated into the Virtual Iron software.
Virtual Iron recently created a virtual classroom for its clients to use in learning how best to make use of the software in order to maximise their return on investment.
