Holistic 10 GbE solutions 'are in demand'
15 Aug 2008
There is widespread demand for ten-gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) solutions capable of performing a number of functions, according to an analyst.
Research conducted by Dell'Oro Group indicates that end-users are now looking to 10 GbE networks to support communications such as wireless networking and IP-based voice transmissions.
Alan Weckel, senior analyst at Dell'Oro Group, says: "Convergence towards Ethernet in the wiring closet and data centre continues to drive consolidation in the market."
The research organisation adds that the 10 GbE industry has now passed two benchmark figures as, in the second quarter of 2008, revenues surpassed $600 million (£325 million) and shipments broke through the 250,000-device mark.
Dell'Oro Group notes that vendors across the marketplace are looking to cater for this growing demand by offering new holistic solutions in order to meet the needs of potential clients.
Analyst the Enterprise Strategy Group recently claimed that data centres are ready to adopt 10 GbE, with a variety of reasons driving the proliferation of the technology during 2008..
