Cloud computing 'the most reliable infrastructure'

18 Aug 2008

A well-constructed cloud computing network could prove to be the most reliable infrastructure of all, it has been claimed.

Writing for Ovum, an information resource from market analyst Datamonitor, Steve Hodgkinson contends that the way cloud computing works is in many ways complementary to the internet as a whole.

"The scale of the cloud creates both the necessity and the opportunity for redundancy on a massive scale - which was the original purpose of the internet itself," he explains.

Mr Hodgkinson adds that cloud computing could ultimately become "the most reliable computing infrastructure on the planet".

His comments come in light of his observation that an increasing number of technology firms are showing a desire to invest in developing more reliable cloud computing services.

Industry analyst Gartner recently predicted that demand for cloud-based email is likely to see the technology spread into other areas in the years leading to 2012..
