IT managers 'to focus on power efficiency'

22 Aug 2008

ITProPortal claims that data centre managers may be expected to address their power efficiency provisions in light of rising costs associated with energy consumption in such facilities.

"Rising power costs are going to squeeze data centre operators, whether commercial or corporate, in a very painful way," the publication asserts.

According to ITProPortal, data centre managers are likely to be looking into ways of reducing their total expenditure on power - which could also prove beneficial to the environment.

"One of the most obvious ways that they can do this is by looking at their efficiency," it contends.

The publication suggests that addressing power efficiency could benefit companies on a number of levels, ranging from boosting profits to potentially helping a company to survive.

ITProPortal previously reported that a relatively small change in the cost of energy can have a substantial effect on data centres due to the large power consumption of some facilities.
