22 Aug 2008

The Force10 TeraScale E-series of switch-routers has been implemented by Korean e-commerce operator Gmarket, it has been revealed.

Based around the TeraScale E600, the new network infrastructure aims to maintain the availability of Gmarket's online shopping mall in the face of eight-figure usage statistics.

Jooyoung Mok, managing director of the technology division at Gmarket, says: "Delivering real-time services to online users requires a robust infrastructure and Force10 delivers the reliable anytime access we require to create an exciting shopping experience for our customers."

In all, 14.3 million people make use of the website's online shopping services, while 18 million unique hits are recorded at the site each month.

Force10 Networks asserts that the TeraScale E-series comes with routing support for both the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols with full L2 switching.

Each chassis is also capable of serving up to 224 ten-gigabit Ethernet ports or a maximum of 1,260 ports operating in the slower gigabit Ethernet bandwidth range.
