BI plan needed as data 'skyrockets'
27 Aug 2008
As the amount of data which must be stored by companies continues to "skyrocket", analyst IDC is recommending that firms implement a business intelligence (BI) strategy to ensure they can cope.
The benefits of a BI strategy include a greater level of usage of data and an increase in the overall quality of data stored, according to the research organisation.
Senior market analyst for IT spending and vertical markets Melissa Martin explains that the ability to deal with increasing data demands is among the "key factors" which contribute to the long-term success of a business.
"Data generation continues to skyrocket on a daily basis fuelled by new technology innovations such as RFID chips, nanotechnology, grid computing and video streaming," she observes.
IDC previously claimed that, despite widespread interest in the opportunities presented by green IT, there remains a lack of information regarding the driving forces behind the procurement of eco-friendly networking and storage equipment..
