Network security 'is chief concern'
03 Sep 2008
The security of networks is a major concern for IT practitioners around the world, it has been claimed.
Research conducted during June, July and August by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) reveals that 32.8 per cent of industry participants consider the issue to be the primary obstacle they are currently facing.
Second place in the online poll of hurdles faced by network managers went to human error, which almost a fifth (19.6 per cent) of respondents identified as being a relevant concern at present.
Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer of CompTIA, says: "It's incumbent on all organisations, regardless of size or industry, to implement a multi-layered approach to security that leverages both technology and education."
In equal third on the shortlist were the issues of data storage and of finding and keeping experienced employees, each of which was cited by 12.1 per cent of the voters.
CompTIA asserts that it represents the global IT industry, with operations distributed throughout 100 countries around the planet..
