Asia 'spends more on data security'
04 Sep 2008
Asian firms are currently spending a greater proportion of their IT budgets on data security provisions than their counterparts in western Europe and the US, according to market analyst Gartner.
The organisation reveals that 15 per cent of typical expenditure in the Asia Pacific region goes towards addressing data security concerns, with China and India among the largest growth regions.
Matthew Cheung, senior research analyst at Gartner, comments: "This reflects the difference between mature and emerging markets, which are still hungry for security solutions."
Gartner notes that issues such as data compliance and regulatory pressures are not taken into account by as many as three in ten IT managers in the Asia Pacific region.
This is due to the fact that the region's IT spending is currently driven by business considerations, rather than a desire to comply with regulation, it adds.
However, the analyst previously conceded that some of the growth in spending in developing IT markets compared to the US may be due to the relatively weak performance of the dollar..
