ECB storage 'up in Q2'

09 Sep 2008

During the second quarter of 2008, the external controller-based (ECB) disk storage market increased in value by almost a fifth over the previous year, it has been revealed.

Industry analyst Gartner claims that the year-on-year growth exhibited by the ECB storage sector reached 18.8 per cent in the second three months of the year.

Robin Burke, research vice-president for Gartner's global storage quarterly statistics programme, says: "Although growth in North America was lower than the other regions it was still very respectable at almost 13 per cent given the current economic conditions."

Japan exhibited the greatest growth rate in terms of geographical regions at 38.7 per cent, while Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America and the Asia Pacific region followed at annual increases of 25.2, 22.3 and 16.6 per cent respectively.

Gartner previously claimed that sales of storage products in mature markets are typically driven by the need to comply with regulations, whereas developing markets often see such decisions based on business considerations..
