IT departments 'aggressively protecting data'
10 Sep 2008
Many IT departments are pursuing more aggressive protection of data in light of the tendency for companies to have multiple offices in different places around the world, according to Riverbed Technology.
The organisation gives the example of Lathrop & Gage, a law firm based in Florida, which has ten offices across the state and in Venezuela, serving a total of 550 employees.
After the 2004 hurricane season, in which the firm experienced four of the storms, it instigated an overhaul of its backup and replication procedures - part of a wider trend, according to Riverbed Technology.
"Natural disasters in recent years have prompted a renewed sense of urgency - many firms have experienced the crippling effects of no data access for days or weeks," the network accelerator provider explains.
Riverbed Technology previously revealed that its products had been installed by Willis Group Holdings, a global insurance company, in order to consolidate its IT infrastructure.
