Virtual Iron 'deployed by universities'
10 Sep 2008
A greater number of universities are turning to Virtual Iron's virtualisation software in order to improve their IT infrastructure, it has been claimed.
Tim Walsh writes on the Virtual Iron blog of the benefits being derived by higher education institutions - including the University of Massachusetts.
According to the company spokesperson, the educator's computer science department at Lowell has deployed Virtual Iron in order to meet the needs of both its students and its faculty members.
"Virtual Iron has been deployed by a number of higher education institutions to streamline their IT infrastructure, reduce power and cooling and support business continuity efforts," Mr Walsh writes.
He adds that the advantages of the software include high availability of information and effective disaster recovery at a relatively low cost.
Virtual Iron previously announced that its software had been listed among the finalists for the 2008 Massachusetts Technology Leadership Award, which aims to highlight organisations within the sector which are governed to high standards.
