Force10 'helps businesses to optimise networks'

17 Sep 2008

A new set of management, power and security features are to be added to the Force10 operating system FTOS, the company announces.

Customers are aided in their transition to converged networks by the FTOS system, which enables business networks to evolve with the needs of the firm, Force10 Networks says.

"The flexibility built into the new FTOS features enables IT managers to more efficiently utilise their networks even as their business requirements, applications and traffic profiles evolve," explains Stephen Garrison, vice-president of marketing at Force10 Networks.

Networks' PowerSmart technology senses the power requirements of devices and guides businesses to only use the amount of energy they need, the firm says.

Realising the problem of availability a converged services network has, automated features have been included in the FTOS system, such as IT staff being notified of a problem before it de-stabilises the network.

Network administrators can categorise and manage streaming, multicast and broadcast traffic to support video on the network but not at the expense of other business critical applications, Force10 Networks says.

The Green TECHpulse'08 Premium Business Technology Recommendations report is being added to Research and Markets' portfolio.
