Fujitsu Siemens 'helps SMEs jump virtualization hurdle'

18 Sep 2008

A package custom-fit for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) includes licenses for three physical servers, allowing companies to begin affordable virtualization, the technology firm claims.

The solution can be expanded if needed, meaning virtualization projects can be adapted to suit the size of a business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers claims.

Customers can design the package to meet their own needs because there are no permanent configurations and the VirtualCentre Foundation solution provides virtual server management.

"Thanks to the licensing model, they have the opportunity to successfully clear the first hurdle on the way towards server virtualization at a low cost and to keep their future virtualization projects consistently in line with their company growth," says Helmut Beck, vice-president of storage business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

SMEs start with an IP-based storage area network as a cheaper alternative to the more expensive fibre channel networks, the computer firm says, adding that the high scalability and performance of online storage solution FibreCAT SX80 iSCSI makes virtualization projects easier.

Organisations can consolidate servers and streamline development and testing procedures when taking a virtualized approach, continuitycentral.com reports.
