Huawei to advance WiMAX

25/09/2008 17:03:44

Huawei submitted 568 proposals to the WiMAX Forum - the second largest number of submissions by a single company - which demonstrates its commitment to developing the technology, a report says.

In the second quarter of 2008, Huawei claims to have delivered 55 standard proposals to the IEEE 802.16m, more than any other vendor.

"Being one of the most active members in our standard organisations, Huawei is actively engaged in promoting the development of the WiMAX ecosystem and regularly contributes to WiMAX industry standards," says Jim Carlo of the WiMAX forum and fellow of the non profit technology organisation IEEE.

In 2000, Huawei began investing in IEEE802.16 standard technologies and became a member of the WiMAX Forum in 2004.

It has served as a chairman on a number of groups within the forum including Data Integrity and Connectivity Service Network Mobility Management.

And this year, Huawei won the outstanding contribution award for its role in furthering the development of WiMAX technologies.

WiMAX is provided through micro waves rather than being linked to a local exchange by cables.
