Virtual Iron 'top 5 virtualisation vendor'

27 Oct 2008

Virtual Iron has been rated as a top five virtualisation vendor, after the company launched its server virtualisation product in 2006, a report states.

Andi Mann, research director at Enterprise Management Associates, gave the accolade to Virtual Iron amid claims that since 2006, the vendor has amassed 2,000 clients, IT Management reports.

"Despite its modest profile, Virtual Iron is taking aim at the market leader. One of Virtual Iron’s key sales pitches is [that it has] comparable features to VMware, without the cost and complexity," the technology forum continues, which may reflect how Virtual Iron was rated by Gartner as being cheaper than its competitor, while matching it for its stability and management.

Ed Walsh, Virtual Iron’s chief executive officer, told IT Management that the vendor was an "unsung hero", while its client base showed that although the company may be smaller than others, its products were obviously working.

The vendor recently announced that Open-E's IP storage software had been certified to be used with Virtual Iron's virtualisation software, bringing benefits to the small and medium-sized business sector.
