LSI storage 'upgrades supercomputer'
12 Nov 2008
LSI has been deployed to upgrade the performance and reliability of a Sandia National Laboratories supercomputer, it has been reported.
The vendor's SGI InfiniteStorage 4600 solution was installed on to the Red Storm supercomputer to reduce risk and improve service levels, while delivering a data transfer rate of 70 GB/s.
Red Storm operates at 280 teraflops and the LSI solution consisted of 20 SGI InfiniteStorage 4600 storage systems, which stored 1.8 petabytes of scientific data.
Commenting on the news, Steve Hochberg, senior director of the high-performance computing segment at LSI, says that the LSI Engenio storage systems are trusted by customers "to deliver the superior performance and enterprise-class reliability that the world's most demanding applications environments require".
Additionally, the storage system can be effectively used in environments which involve vast amounts of data for complex application processing and high-bandwidth programs.
The vendor previously announced that it had launched an industry-first six Gb/s solution for external storage applications.
