26 Nov 2008
Next-generation videoconferencing has saved one US firm thousands of dollars in transit time, hotel fees and the cost of airfare, it has been claimed.
According to Entrepreneur, regular staff meetings are now conducted over the technology between Vidyo's offices in locations including northern California and New Jersey.
Indeed, the resource notes that sales growth for the videoconferencing sector have shot up, reflecting how the technology has progressed from the earlier systems which delivered high costs and low quality.
Commenting on prices, Ira Weinstein, senior analyst and partner for Wainhouse Research, tells the website: "The value that you place on these systems really depends on the individual."
She adds that while the expense may seem out-of-reach for some, "the overall value proposition of being able to communicate more effectively with your clients or employees makes the difference".
As such, the resource notes that the LifeSize Express Focus video communications system by LifeSize Communications costs below $5,000 (£3,250).
The vendor has recently announced the release of its v 4.0.2 software, which enhances user experience and improves the interoperability with integrated services digital networks and third-party systems.
