Riverbed 'cuts data recovery time'

28 Nov 2008

A subsidiary of a concessions and construction group has cut its data recovery time by two-thirds by using Riverbed's Steelhead appliances.

Indeed, VINCI PLC has deployed 30 of the products and reduced the number of servers at remote sites by 80 per cent, the vendor claims, while users no longer experience delays when they access live data.

Furthermore, in a bid to consolidate and re-architect its IT infrastructure, the firm deployed the Riverbed Steelheads and discovered that its data recovery time dropped from 72 hours to less than 24, while 25 file servers could be removed and replaced with three in the data centre.

Commenting on the news, Ben Paddick, VINCI PLC's technical design architect, says: "Thanks to Riverbed we've been able to make more applications and data available over the wide area network and use IT assets with less concern about the impact to the network topology."

It was recently stated that Riverbed's Steelhead appliances had cut the data replication time of a mobile phone operator in the Middle East.
