QLogic and Infortrend unite on 8 Gbps FC

04 Mar 2009

IT infrastructure vendors Infortrend and QLogic are joining forces on the delivery of eight gigabit per second (8 Gbps) Fibre Channel equipment.

The recently announced 8 Gbps RAID solutions from Infortrend include the S16F-R1840 and S16F-G1840 models, scalable with the addition of expansion enclosures to accommodate a total of 112 drives each.

Joseph Kimpler, director of alliances at QLogic, says: "As the deployment of 8 Gbps Fibre Channel solutions continue to increase, QLogic and Infortrend are uniquely positioned to deliver interoperable storage solutions for performance-driven data centre environments."

He adds that QLogic's range of 8 Gbps switches and adapters can work with Infortrend's 8 Gbps RAID arrays to provide a robust system which meets the needs of modern virtualised data centres.

Meanwhile, companies looking to address their power consumption may be interested in Infortrend's announcement earlier in the year that its EonStor subsystems offer a choice of energy-reducing spin-down modes for idle disk drives in the array.
