QLogic unveils new converged network adapters
31 Mar 2009
QLogic claims to be leading "the charge toward intelligent converged networks" with the launch of new single-chip Fibre Channel over Ethernet network adapters.
Amit Vashi, vice-president of marketing at QLogic's host solutions group, says: "In this challenging macroeconomic environment, customers are looking for savings across a multitude of dimensions - in power, space, cooling and management."
The spokesperson adds that the Network Plus Architecture incorporated into the new 8100 series of converged network adapters makes previously unavailable cost savings a possibility.
QLogic argues that modern networks are creating new opportunities for convergence of different protocols such as voice and video, data communications and storage, as well as extending the network into the cloud.
The company also recently reported figures from analyst the Dell'Oro Group which showed that, in the fourth quarter of 2008, QLogic was able to achieve strong sales of host bus adapters to further extend its lead at the head of the market.
