'Compelling return' from virtualisation
01 Jun 2009
Virtualisation is driving demand for network adapters among customers keen to benefit from the "compelling return" offered by the technology, according to new market analysis from the Dell'Oro Group.
The analyst notes that ten-gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) network adapters "rebounded" in the first quarter of 2009 at the start of what is expected to be "a year of robust growth" for 10 GbE networking products.
Vice-president of the Dell'Oro Group Seamus Crehan explains that 10 GbE networking is seen by many as an attractive option for investment once virtualisation has been implemented across the network.
"Users continue to virtualise servers because of compelling return on investment and equipment cost savings," he adds.
Dell'Oro Group recently predicted that the growth in 10 GbE networking sales would likely be spurred by the introduction of new products by high-end manufacturers.
Those singled out by the analyst as bringing new products to market included Force10 Networks and Juniper Networks..
