Companies 'deduplicating all tiers of storage'
03 Jun 2009
Some of the early adopters of deduplication technology are advancing their use of the data-shrinking method across other storage tiers, it has been claimed.
William Cordero, vice-president of worldwide channel sales at Storwize, explains that both primary and secondary storage are receiving attention from organisations as they look to maximise their use of deduplication.
"The same organisations that have been rapidly adopting deduplication technology for backup are looking to reduce costs across all tiers of storage including primary and secondary," he says.
With Storwize products, he claims that an "enormous opportunity" is presented due to the "unique and compelling" return on investment prospect of the company's real-time capacity optimisation solutions.
Mr Cordero's comments come as he has recently been announced as the new vice-president of worldwide channel sales at Storwize.
Among the companies to have recently taken advantage of Storwize capacity optimisation solutions is automated translation service provider Language Weaver, which achieved real-time data reduction of up to 75 per cent from a pair of Storwize STN-6800 appliances.
