LifeSize Desktop video software announced

16 Jun 2009

LifeSize has announced the details of its LifeSize Desktop video software, allowing PC users to experience improved performance when communicating via webcam.

Delegates at the upcoming InfoComm 09 event, taking place in Orlando on July 17th-19th, are to be given the chance to experience LifeSize Desktop for themselves at the company's exhibition stand.

General availability is expected in the third quarter of 2009 for the software-based solution, which LifeSize says can be installed in minutes without any infrastructure or central server needed.

Among the features of the software is the ability to broadcast in the 16:9 aspect ratio, allowing the image to fit widescreen displays in meeting rooms, while high-definition video and audio broadcast is also promised.

Remote users can make use of the software either via a virtual private network or with another of the company's solutions, LifeSize Transit.

LifeSize Transit offers a means by which video data can traverse the edge of a secure network, allowing remote users to communicate with those inside the firewall without exposing the network by leaving ports open.
