Business sales 'buoy VoIP market'
22 Jun 2009
VoIP sales to the business sector have helped to buoy the market in recent months, according to figures recently published by analyst the Dell'Oro Group.
Group vice-president Greg Collins says that "there are some bright spots" in the VoIP market despite the economic turbulence that is impacting on all sectors - adding that business VoIP services and session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking are examples of positivity.
During the first three months of 2009, compared with the same period in the previous year, companies with international operations were seen to fare better than those contained within the North American market.
This led to Huawei recording an increase in market share year-on-year, according to the Dell'Oro Group analysis.
Meanwhile, Mr Collins notes that interest in SIP trunking is helping to drive sales in related technologies - such as enterprise-level session border controller products - as corporations integrate IP private branch exchanges from numerous vendors.
Earlier in the month, Dell'Oro forecasted that, in spite of turbulent economies, VoIP penetration will exhibit positive growth for the full year in 2009.
