Australian gov't department adopts Riverbed WAN optimisation
25 Jun 2009
Riverbed Technology's Steelhead appliances are the new solution of choice for the Australian government, it has been reported.
The New South Wales Department of Environment and Climate Change (Decc) has invested in a range of the company's Steelhead appliances, in addition to the Steelhead Mobile client acceleration software. The new technology will be incorporated into 101 sites across the state, according to Search Networking.
Manager of ICT Infrastructure at Decc Fernando Martinez told he website: "A lot of our sites are in extremely remote locations where getting access to a suitable WAN connection is either not possible or extremely expensive.
"It's simply not practical to add bandwidth to these remote sites, which is why we started looking at WAN optimisation."
The new Steelhead appliances from Riverbed Technology will enable the Decc to cut its data network traffic and bandwidth usage, while simultaneously allowing improved connectivity between the locations.
Riverbed Technology's Steelhead appliances claim to provide the highest level of WAN performance across the broadest range of technological applications worldwide.
