'Steady growth' predicted for server market
30 Jun 2009
Industry analyst IDC has forecasted a steady rate of growth for the server market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the coming years.
From revenue of $1.6 billion (£960 million) in the second quarter of 2009 for volume servers, IDC expects the figure to climb to $1.7 billion by the third quarter of 2010, with positive growth also expected in the second quarter of the year.
Meanwhile, statistics for the first quarter of 2011 are also expected to show positive year-on-year revenue growth for both high-end and mid-range server sales, according to IDC.
The analyst adds that it "believes buyer interest will resume this autumn and that green shoots will be evident from the second half of 2009" following the impact of the recent economic turbulence on the IT industry.
In a recent worldwide market report, IDC noted signs of stabilisation in global server sales, adding that the latter half of 2009 and the start of 2010 are unlikely to be affected by market turbulence to the extent that was seen earlier in the year..
