Force10 selected to power Brookhaven National Labs
03 Jul 2009
Brookhaven National Labs, part of the US Department of Energy, has selected Force10 Networks to power its infrastructure using the company's ExaScale range of virtualised switch-routers.
Vincent Bonafede, manager of the network operations group for Brookhaven, claims that installing a next-generation infrastructure is a continuation of the labs' 60-year commitment to advancing the forefront of scientific knowledge in a range of disciplines.
Frank Burstein, senior network engineer at Brookhaven, says: "We need a non-stop reliable network with the density and performance characteristics required to operate under extreme load."
He adds: "Force10 fits our needs with its high-availability platforms, which offer high performance at full load."
The E1200 in particular offers capacity benefits along with industry-leading throughput, Force10 says, supporting a switching fabric capacity of 250 Gbps per slot in full duplex for a total of 3.5 Tbps.
Another scientific organisation, the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, recently implemented Force10's products, this time selecting the S-Series of access switches and C-Series of resilient switches to support its data centre network.
