Riverbed Steelhead appliances speed pushchair firm

03 Jul 2009

Pushchair manufacturer Bugaboo has found its file downloads accelerated from minutes to just seconds after implementing Riverbed Steelhead appliances.

A total of ten of the Steelhead appliances were used to boost the performance of Bugaboo's centralised IT infrastructure, with Steelhead Mobile helping to enhance the positive effects seen across the network.

The move came after a previous data centreconsolidation programme undertaken by the firm had left it with a single, overworked facility based in Amsterdam and poor performance for employees working over the wide area network.

With 800 employees in total, Bugaboo's network stretches across the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Sweden and the US, with a factory also manufacturing Bugaboo products in China.

Guillaume Groen, infrastructure manager at Bugaboo, says: "We couldn't go back due to the cost and complexity involved in re-installing local servers at branch offices.

"However, just increasing bandwidth wouldn't solve the problem either, as we knew the issue was latency."

Riverbed Steelhead appliances were also recently installed by gambling organisation Tatts Group, a gaming and lottery operator which saw its key IT applications accelerated fourfold as a result of the decision.
