HDS AMS 2500 'supports high-speed virtual servers'
03 Jul 2009
The Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Adaptable Modular Storage model AMS 2500 has the level of support required for high-speed virtualised server environments, according to HDS chief technical officer Hu Yoshida.
He writes in a blog post of the "aggregated need for high-speed connections" that virtualised servers can exhibit.
But with the AMS 2500, he says this can be catered for with 16 Fibre Channel ports running at a possible 8 Gbps each.
Mr Yoshida adds that a model designed to operate on a direct current (DC) power supply, the AMS 2500DC, is aimed at data centres which are looking to eliminate alternating current (AC) from their internal infrastructure.
By doing so, he explains, environmental responsibility commitments can be met by reducing the number of times power is converted between AC and DC.
His comments follow the news that HDS is introducing 8 Gbps Fibre Channel host ports across its AMS 2300 and 2500 systems to improve clients' management of unstructured data growth.
