Clifford Chance selects Brocade for centralised data centres

23/10/2009 16:07:09

Brocade is helping law firm Clifford Chance to simplify its data centre structure by providing the necessary components to power the organisation's systems without the need to purchase from multiple vendors.

Clifford Chance storage team leader Chris Turner explains that, previously, the law firm installed equipment in response to the needs of individual projects.

However, this led to a multi-vendor infrastructure being in place, with the associated complexities placing unnecessary demands on system management.

"In 2005, we re-evaluated our strategy and began moving to a more centralised model," he says.

Part of this process has resulted in Brocade DCX Backbones being installed in four locations to put a centralised data centre infrastructure in place for the firm's European operations.

Existing storage systems in both the UK and Germany have been consolidated, with management of the systems also centralised.

Brocade previously announced enhanced functionality and support for its DCX Backbone line-up with the introduction of two modular solutions, the Brocade FX8-24 Extension Blade and the Brocade FCoE 10-24 Blade.

The first of these can connect two data centres together for disaster recovery purposes, while the latter enables server input-output consolidation by enabling Fibre Channel over Ethernet capabilities.
