Future of Ethernet 'will continue from current efforts'
03 Nov 2009
Speaking at the Euro-IX Meeting in Rome this week, Force10 spokesman John D'Ambrosia looked at some of the ways in which the current development of 100-gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE) will support the future of the networking standard.
Mr D'Ambrosia - part of the office of the chief technology officer at Force10 - made his observations at a general session at the Euro-IX Forum, the 15th meeting held by the European Internet Exchange Association, reports Reuters.
He discussed the current efforts being made on advancing 100 GbE, looking ahead to the next rate likely to be introduced for the Ethernet standard and the likelihood that it will be derived from present deployment practices.
Along with his role at Force10, Mr D'Ambrosia is also chair of the 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps Ethernet Task Force for the developing IEEE P802.3ba protocol.
Recent financial figures from Force10 Networks noted the accelerating uptake of the 10 GbE networking standard, with a greater number of shipments for the firm's core switch-router platforms at that rate.
