Spectra Logic 'offers best tape library'

11 Nov 2009

The T-Finity library by Spectra Logic is the finest tape library on the market - beating other similar models - according to the IT technology provider.

With more than 30,000 slots, the T-Finity is designed for use in large organisations, the media and the federal market - where users must complete high volumes. Spectra states that it has the highest storage density available, with its product holding more than double its closest rival.

Dual redundant robots which move tape cartridges to the decks are a hi-tech design feature of a system which can hold 45-petabytes of linear tape open -5 in a single drive. It also offers a 400-megabytes-per-second data rate.

The T-Finity is the most energy-efficient library on the market, using less than half the electricity consumed by its rivals per gigabyte. T-Finity features include integrated data encryption and library virtualisation and partitioning.

Earlier this week Spectra Logic reported that it believes tape storage is still the most reliable way to store data and that it will not die out until at least 2020.
