Disaster recovery failing 'could impact upon SMBs'
18 Nov 2009
Disaster recovery technology - a necessity for every business - should be "proactively approached rather than left as an afterthought," according to Knowledge Centre contributor Thomas Nieto.
Although every company which uses a data system will require unique protection, one simple step can be taken to safeguard information: data protection software with off-site storage. To find out which product is best for a particular organisation, bosses should carry out a line of business analysis.
Such analysis should lead a business to the solution that is right for it. Using a discovery-analysis-plan approach, it is possible to determine which technology is within budget, available, viable and provide the right security reasonably quickly. In this era of downsizing, failure to implement suitable protection could be disastrous for small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs).
Earlier this month Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) announced that it intends to expand its range of disaster recovery solutions. It said that the current economic climate could lead large companies to invest in disaster recovery technology as it can help them reduce costs.
