Huawei works with major network providers to discuss mobile broadband evolution

19 Nov 2009

Huawei, the provider of futuristic telecommunications network solutions, has spent time discussing its views on the upcoming evolution of broadband internet for mobile phones. The firm met major mobile companies, such as Vodafone, China Mobile and T-Mobile, at the Huawei Asia Pacific Chief Technology Officer Forum in Hong Kong.

More than 150 senior officials from the world's leading telecommunications organisations were present at the debate, which was led by Huawei. Huawei predicts that around 30 per cent of the world's population - two billion people - will have subscribed to broadband internet services on their mobile phone by 2013.

It expects 2G, 3G and 4G networks to remain operational alongside each other but claims that some providers do not have the migration software necessary to be in a position to offer broadband to so many.

Victor Wang, Huawei's Asia Pacific president, said: "Technology can be revolutionised, but networks must evolve over time. In this case, what operators need is not a vertically stacked standard tower, but a horizontally converged network in which voice and data demand from users can be converged into one network element."

Huawei's solutions are to be implemented at Jazztel - Spain's major telecommunications provider - which will allow the company to deal with an increased number of customers.
