QLogic chip 'accelerates move to data centre virtualisation'

25 Nov 2009

QLogic's range of 8100 Series single chip converged network adapters (CNAs) have been certified with VMware vSphere - a virtualisation platform. By utilising the adapters and VMware vSphere together, firms can realise a higher level of data centre efficiency.

A data centre which deploys the unique combination can run all of its operations on one high speed data pipe - which cuts costs in half for some applications, such as management consoles and cables. It also enables customers to gain greater efficiency by running applications across densely packed rows of servers over unified networks.

David Vellante, chief research advocate at QLogic, said: "Single chip CNAs like QLogic's are a leading example of technology that will complement virtualisation without sacrificing performance."

QLogics's network infrastructure technology was last week named the Best High Performance Computing Collaboration Between Government and Industry at the prestigious SuperComputing awards ceremony in Oregon, USA.
